What did you actually ship with AI this quarter?

Invite only, five guests, one question, and the rule that "we are exploring it" does not count as an answer. Every person had to name a thing that reached a customer. Five did. The best story of the afternoon was the smallest: a single classifier that reads incoming support mail, which took a week to build and three months to be allowed to run.

WHAT WENT ROUND

Three questions.
Three rounds of coffee.

They went round the table, in order. Nobody presented. This is what came back.

Round one

What are you building?

“Five things that shipped. Not one of them was a chatbot.”

Round two

What broke?

“Approval, every time. The model took a week; getting it switched on took a quarter.”

Round three

What's next?

“Ship the smallest thing that can be measured, then ask for the bigger one with the number in hand.”

THE BILL

Settled, as always.

Coffee, chai, whatever the café did well, and two hours of the table. The bill came to us, which is the whole arrangement.

  • 018 chairs, 6 given out, 2 kept for the ones who turn up anyway.
